Here’s everything you need to know about the new COVID order.
Unlike previous stay-at-home orders, outdoor recreational facilities can remain open “to promote and protect the physical and mental well-being” of residents. That includes beaches, parks and outdoor gyms; however, none may sell food or drink for on-site consumption.
Checking in on Leucadia… live music and great eats!
On Saturday we checked out Moonage Food Co. In Leucadia. Chef Tyler has really improved the old spot of Haggo’s then The Lanai and now it’s Moonage’s own Food Truck on the same spot. They have a really great take on Street Fusion eats. They have a small stage and play live music Thursday thru Sunday. We dined on some tasty street tacos and listened to reggae surf inspired music by Hazmatt. It’s definitely worth a visit. One of the few places with live music on the coast today too.
What’s the latest on COVID in the Cardiff area?
I watch the counts daily to see how our area is going compared to the rest of San Diego, California and the whole USA. San Diego as a whole is doing really well, there are definite hot spots down by the border and in San Diego City proper. The 14 day rolling positive rate in San Diego county is about 5% which is well below the 8% target mandated by the governor.
Outdoor dining and drinking has finally arrived!
Today on our walk We noticed lots of pop-up tents in Cardiff for outdoor dining. Here is Best Pizza’s setup and it’s pretty standard and The Confessional “Beer Garden” below. The parking lots are converted to outdoor dining and drinking spaces. We saw Chart House, Las Olas, Tower 13 and Ki’s all had outside tents set up for your dining pleasure.
Some minor changes as you plan your next summer stay…
Today, the county closed some more indoor businesses (gyms, nail and hair salons, places of worship, and a variety of other non essential businesses), but Cardiff is still ready for all you vacationers!

New Street-side Dining and Outdoor Retail Coming to Downtown Encinitas!
Come join us as we partake in the new fresh air restaurant seating and retail display space on South Coast Highway 101. The Encinitas City Council has authorized converting one traffic lane in each direction to restaurant seating and retail display space to allow restaurants and stores to provide safe dining and shopping experiences for their patrons as they comply with COVID-19 requirements.
Summer is finally here…
I took a bike ride from Carlsbad to Del Mar this weekend and guess what? It looks like summer everywhere, up and down the coast people are lounging and playing...
What’s Open in Cardiff?
Here’s a list from Cardiff 101 Main Street of restaurants open as of today.
Our Beaches Are (Almost!!!) Fully OPEN!
As of June 2nd, San Diego County will be permitting the use of beaches for sitting and sunbathing in addition to the already allowed usage for activities such as jogging, walking, surfing, etc. The county is still asking that beach-goers practice physical social distancing from people outside your household, and that face masks are used in public, especially at beach entrances that may be particularly narrow spaces.
